This is the best recipe I’ve found for strong “first layer” paste for paper mâché sculpturing. I take a statue, cover it with aluminum foil, cover that with the cheapest/thinnest brown packing tape I can find. Then I cut it down the middle with tiny sharp scissors, carefully peel it off the statue, then stuff it with balled up newspaper and tape it back up. Then I dip strips of paper into a cooked flour & water paste which DRIES MATTE TRANSLUCENT!
CLEAR PAPER MACHE PASTE RECIPE from cooked flour & water
1 part white flour
8 parts cold water
(Like: 1/4 cup white flour to 2 cups water)
Mix thoroughly then bring to a boil over medium-high heat in a large pot – STIRRING CONSTANTLY. Use a silicone or square-edged wooden or metal spatula to stir it up out of the corners and scrape the bottom. Take it off the heat as soon as it starts to boil. Pour a little off so it starts to cool faster – you can’t use this when it’s hot!
Toilet Paper – 72 grams dry (which I think is wrong – 45 grams dry came out to 1 1/4 cups wet…), 330 grams wet (tear into smaller chunks when it’s wet)
